A Message from Fr Martin Boland, Dean of the Cathedral

“Not only is the Pope's state visit historic but it is also a time of renewal for all Catholic communities, including Brentwood Cathedral. It is an opportunity for Catholics to show how important faith is in giving an authentic meaning to life.

We want to unashamedly celebrate our faith in Jesus Christ. But, I also hope it will show how Catholics play a significant role in every level of society, helping to build the common good and caring for those who are most vulnerable.

Our faith is not just something that happens on a Sunday or when the Pope appears, but is the Godly force that should shape all our activities

At Brentwood Cathedral we want, first of all, to celebrate the message of hope and peace that the Pope brings. During this week we will do that in all sorts of ways. But we also want to welcome all those people who are moved by the Pope's visit.

I think Brentwood Cathedral is as much for the seekers and the curious as it is for the faithful. Amid all the pressures of modern life, I hope the Cathedral provides a sanctuary of prayer and stillness for all people”.
