Looking as cool as the proverbial cucumber after completeing the gruelling Brentwood Half-Marathon, Father Paul admitted to having no regrets at all.

'I did manage to put in some training' he said, 'and I was very keen to make a contribution to the Cathedral Parish Hall Fund.'

Several people had offered him pre-race tips and advice, but what really counted, he said, was Fr Bill's firm final injunction to 'Pace yourself, Paul, there is an awful lot of money riding on your back!'.

Father Paul was joined in this energetic enterprise by Mike Daniels (left) and that doyen of the Cathedral Parish Hall Fund, David Worsfold (right). All three completed the thirteen mile course, in splendidly sunny but fresh conditions, at what were described as 'personal best times'.
